nasacool and fozziebear. thanx.Actually i think u r right. I may find them at mexican aisles. May be I looked at wrong places. In one shirin anwar recipe of lal tikka she did advise about substituting 2 tbsp paprika plus vinegar for 4 kashmiri chillies.Since not every one living abroad can find talhar chillies.
I live in virginia infact my name suggests taht fozziebear, infact i dont know where u live.
seemva she is right u can find these chillies in regular grocery stores ask for california chillies and u can find these in 99cents stores also they have it. i never use powder so i dont know .they come in 2 or 3oz package in dollar stores.
seemva, i don't know where you live. if you live in usa then you will find those chillies in mexican stores or the mexican isle of any american store.they are same as kashmiri or talhar mirch. I've used them and they turned out great.
nasacool, I tried to buy kashmiri dry chillies at indian stores but I could not find them. They had long thin dry chillies or button chillies which r too hot. Instead I found kashmiri chilli powder by swad, brand. I bought that. Should that be good for lal aloo. I will try these potatoes tomorrow on ur recommendation.do u get kashmiri chillies in ur area. Well my indian stores r quite big.mostly south indians reside in my area hence i found south indian dry chilies also.
