Ingredients:

  • Plums -- halved and stoned 1 lb
  • Apples -- peeled and cored 1 lb
  • Tomatoes -- chopped 1 lb
  • Onions -- sliced 1 lb
  • Garlic cloves -- chopped 2 lg
  • Sultanas -- (raisins) 3 c
  • Mace 1/4 ts
  • Ground mixed spice 1/4 ts
  • Ground ginger 2 tb
  • Light brown sugar 1 lb

Method:

  1. Mix the fruit and vegetables together. Put into an preserving pan
  2. Add the remaining ingredients, except the sugar. Simmer for about 30 minutes until tender.
  3. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Simmer
  4. gently, stirring frequently, until thick.
  5. Cool, then pack the chutney into clean jars. Cover and seal.
