Gingerbread Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 to 3 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 tbsp. vinegar
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Method:

  1. In a pan Cream sugar and shortening.
  2. Take a pot and beat eggs along with molasses, and vinegar.  
  3. Sift together dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture.
  4. Chill for 3 hours and roll dough on lightly floured surface.  
  5. Cut in ginger man shapes, or any other shape.
  6. Place it on cookie sheet and bake at 375F for 5 minutes.

Fragrant with molasses, ground ginger and cinnamon
