Ingredients for Batata Vada:

  • Potatoes 600 gm
  • Ginger 1 inch
  • Garlic 10-12 cloves
  • Green chilies 4-5
  • Gram flour 1-1/2 cups
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Soda bi-carbonate a pinch
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves 2 tbsp
  • Oil to fry
  • Ketchup to serve

Method:

  1. Boil and mash potatoes and keep aside.
  2. Make a paste of ginger, garlic and green chilies.
  3. Prepare a thick batter of gram flour with water, red chili powder, salt and soda bi-carbonate.
  4. Heat a little oil.
  5. Add ginger garlic and green chili paste.
  6. Add mashed potatoes and turmeric powder and mix well.
  7. Add chopped coriander leaves and salt to taste
  8. Let the mixture cool.
  9. When cold, form into balls.
  10. Heat oil in a karahi.
  11. Dip the potato balls into the gram flour and deep fry in hot oil till golden brown.
  12. Serve hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.
