Apple Pie Fries by Zarnak Sidhwa

Ingredients:
- Shortcut pastry or puff pastry
- Apples 2-3
- Cinnamon 1/2 tsp
- Sugar 3 tbsp
- Flour 1 tbsp
- Water 1/4 cup
- Egg 1
- Sugar for sprinkling
- Caramel Sauce or Ice cream for dipping
Method:
- To make the apple filling: Peel and chop apples into very small pieces and cook in water, flour, sugar and cinnamon till soft and water has dried up.
- Set aside to cool.
- Roll out shortcrust pastry or puff pastry and spread the apple filling onto one of them.
- Leave a 1/4 pinch border around the edge.
- Put the other pastry on top and press lightly to secure it.
- Make an eggs wash by mixing the egg with a little water.
- Brush some egg wash on the top and sprinkle it with the sugar.
- Cut stripes about 1/2 inch thick and then cut those into fry shapes.
- Place them carefully onto a parchment lined baking sheet and bake them at 180 degrees C for approx.
- 12 minutes, or until they're slightly golden and firm.
- Serve them with some caramel sauce as ketchup for dipping or ice cream on side.
