Apple Pie Fries by Zarnak Sidhwa

Ingredients:

  • Shortcut pastry or puff pastry
  • Apples 2-3
  • Cinnamon 1/2 tsp
  • Sugar 3 tbsp
  • Flour 1 tbsp
  • Water 1/4 cup
  • Egg 1
  • Sugar for sprinkling
  • Caramel Sauce or Ice cream for dipping

Method:

  1. To make the apple filling: Peel and chop apples into very small pieces and cook in water, flour, sugar and cinnamon till soft and water has dried up.
  2. Set aside to cool.
  3. Roll out shortcrust pastry or puff pastry and spread the apple filling onto one of them.
  4. Leave a 1/4 pinch border around the edge.
  5. Put the other pastry on top and press lightly to secure it.
  6. Make an eggs wash by mixing the egg with a little water.
  7. Brush some egg wash on the top and sprinkle it with the sugar.
  8. Cut stripes about 1/2 inch thick and then cut those into fry shapes.
  9. Place them carefully onto a parchment lined baking sheet and bake them at 180 degrees C for approx.
  10. 12 minutes, or until they're slightly golden and firm.
  11. Serve them with some caramel sauce as ketchup for dipping or ice cream on side.
