Karela Chicken Stew by Zarnak Sidhwa

Ingredients:


  • Chicken 1/2 kg
  • Finely chopped onions 3
  • Green chillies (slit) 6
  • Garlic paste 2 tsp
  • Ginger paste 2 tsp
  • Coconut milk 2 cups
  • Tomatoes 2
  • Poppy seeds ground 1 tsp
  • Cinnamon 4 small pieces
  • Cloves 4
  • Chopped coriander leaves a few
  • Oil 4 tsp
  • Lemon juice 1 tbsp
  • Salt as required

Method:

  1. Heat oil, add cinnamon sticks, cloves, onions and green chillies and stir fry until onion turns brown.
  2. Add ginger and garlic and stir for little while.
  3. Add chicken pieces and stir it.
  4. Add 1 cup coconut milk, chopped tomatoes, poppy seeds and coriander leaves along with enough water and salt.
  5. Cover pan and allow contents to boil.
  6. When chicken is cooked and 3/4th of water is dried up, add rest of the coconut milk, lemon juice and boil well. Serve hot.
