Chana Batata Chaat by Shireen Anwer

Ingredients:

  • Chickpeas 250 gm
  • Soda 1 tsp
  • Oil 1/4 cup
  • Cumin crushed 1 tbsp
  • Potatoes 2 large
  • Spring onions 2
  • Yogurt 3/4 cup
  • Chaat masala 1 tbsp
  • Crushed red pepper 1 tsp
  • Salt 1/2 tsp
  • Tomato 1
  • Coriander and Green chilies as required

For Tamarind Chutney:

  • Tamarind pulp 250 gm
  • Jaggery 4 tbsp
  • Salt 1/2 tsp
  • Crushed red pepper 1 tsp
  • Crushed cumin 1 tsp
  • Garlic paste 1/2 tsp
  • Sev and Papri for garnish

Method:

  1. For tamarind chutney: Put tamarind pulp, jaggery, salt, red pepper, cumin and garlic paste in saucepan and cook until thick.
  2. Soak chickpeas with soda overnight.
  3. Boil in next morning.
  4. Now heat oil, put fry 1 tbsp cumin, chickpeas and potatoes cubes, stir fry for 5 minutes and remove from stove.
  5. Then add 1/2 cup tamarind chutney with chaat masala, red pepper, salt, tomato, yogurt and green onion and mix it nicely.
  6. Now garnish with green chilies, coriander, sev and papri.
