Date Chutney by Zarnak Sidhwa

Ingredients:

  • Cinnamon stick 1
  • Cloves 1 tsp
  • Dates pitted 300 gm
  • Malt vinegar 3/4 cup
  • Packed brown sugar 1/4 cup
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Oil 2 tbsp

Method:

  1. Place cinnamon and cloves in muslin cloth and tie it.
  2. Combine dates, vinegar, sugar, salt and oil in saucepan and cook over medium heat.
  3. Add spice parcel.
  4. Cook, stirring, for few minutes or until mixture comes to boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low.
  6. Simmer, partially, covered, stirring occasionally for 20 minutes or until dates are soft and mixture is thick.
  7. Remove from heat. Cool.
  8. Remove and discard spice parcel.
  9. Serve.
