Ingredients:

  • Chana daal 2 cups
  • Spinach 1 cup
  • Turmeric 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste

For Tempering:

  • Ghee 2 tbsp
  • Chopped onion 2
  • Chopped garlic 2 tsp
  • Chopped ginger 2 tsp
  • Chopped green chilies 2-3
  • Chopped tomatoes 2
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp
  • Cumin 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon juice as required

Method:

  1. Put chana daal in water and soak it overnight.
  2. Then strain it next morning, wash with clean water, put in pressure cooker with 4-5 cups water, turmeric, spinach and salt and cook it.
  3. When ready, keep it aside.
  4. For tempering: Heat ghee and crackle cumin.
  5. Now add garlic and fry until golden.
  6. Then add onion and fry until dark brown.
  7. Now add ginger, green chilies, tomatoes, red chili powder and salt and put on daal.
  8. Then sprinkle lemon juice and serve.

Dal Palak is delicious dish. The combination of chana daal & spinach is wonderful. You can serve it with roti or rice.
