Ingredients:
- Sugar 1 cup
- Treacle (lyle’s golden syrup) 1 cup
- Butter 1/2 cup
- Flour 3-1/2 cups
- Bicarbonate soda 1/2 tsp
- Ground ginger 2 tbsp (1 will also do)
Method:
- Take one cup of syrup and boil it.
- Then add butter in it and stir it till it dissolves.
- Sieve (to sift) flour and put ginger, soda and sugar in it.
- Add all these dry ingredients in bowl of syrup and knead (to turn flour into dough) it. Do not put water.
- Then roll and cut into shape.
- It requires moderately hot oven and takes 10 to 15 minutes to bake.
- Keep them separate, as they swell a little.
