Besan ka halwa is a Pakistani dessert. It is made of gram flour. Besan ka halwa is one of the savory items of Pakistani cuisine. It is made widely across Pakistan and people love eating it.
Besan is known as gram flour in English. It is a pulse flour and is made of ground chickpeas. Gram flour has a lot of advantages. It is said that gram flour is high in protein since it is derived from chick peas.
Gram flour has no gluten, so it is very good for people who have gluten sensitivity, which very common nowadays. It helps in maintaining a healthy hear and combats many allergies. Besan is known to lower iron deficiency and also prevents fatigue and weight loss due to it. Bean is very good for various diseases of the skin.
Best Recipe for Besan ka Halwa
Ingredients:
- Gram flour 1 cup.
- Cinnamon sticks 2.
- Sugar 1 ½ cup.
- Green cardamoms 2.
- Clarified butter 1 cup.
- Kewra essence few drops.
- Almonds 5.
- Raisins 1 tbsp.
Method:
- Take a sauce pan and put clarified butter in it.
- Put it on low flame and let the butter melt.
- Once the butter melts add in it cardamoms, cinnamon stick, chopped almonds and raisins.
- Roast them in the butter while stirring it constantly.
- Add sugar in this stage and keep stirring constantly.
- Now add 1 cup water in it and keep stirring until the sugar gets completely dissolved.
- Now add few drops of kewra in it.
- At this point add gram flour and keep stirring it with a wooden spoon.
- Keep stirring constantly until the flour has combined with the sugar syrup and the texture is smooth.
- When it becomes smooth, remove it from the heat.
- Serve it when hot.
Besan ka halwa has a long preparation time. The final step in which the flour has to combine and give smooth texture take a lot of time. So on should be patient and cook it completely else one can taste raw gram flour.
Besan ka halwa like gajar ka halwa, lauki ka halwa and akhrot ka halwa is also served in winters when the temperature is low. Besan ka halwa doesn’t need a lot of ingredients. All the ingredients mentioned can be easily found in any kitchen. The shelf life of besan ka halwa is also more because it doesn’t have milk or any other milk product like khoya.
Besan ka halwa is also very healthy for children and young adults. This dish is extremely tasty and one cannot stop eating it.
