Kaddu ka halwa is made of red Pumpkin. Red pumpkins are usually easily found in Pakistani markets by the end of summers. Kaddu ka halwa is prepared for festivals and people enjoy making and eating it.
Red pumpkin has a lot of advantages and including it in our meals can give us extra nutrients. Pumpkins are high in dietary fibers. So even a small amount of pumpkin in our meal can make us feel fuller and keeps us from getting hungry immediately. Pumpkins are rich in Vitamin A.

Pumpkins are rich in amino acids which induce sleep, so after having pumpkin in our meal its makes our mind relax and helps us unwind, so we can feel better. Pumpkins, especially the seeds, have antioxidants. These antioxidants combat cancer and cancer producing cells and free radical and delay aging. Pumpkins have also shown to improve heart health. Thus other than tasting good it also has a lot of benefits which one should make the most of.
Following is one of the best recipes for Kaddu ka halwa
Ingredients:
- 2 cups pumpkin grated or ½ kg.
- Few tbsp. milk (optional).
- 1 to 2 tbsp. ghee.
- Generous pinch cardamom powder.
- ¼ cup + 1 to 2 tbsp. sugar (adjust slightly).
- Few cashews or pistachios chopped.
Method:
- Take a sauce pan and add ghee in it.
- Now fry the nuts till they become golden. Take them out and keep them aside.
- In this pan now add grated pumpkin and cook till the raw smell goes away. It will take 4 to 5 minutes.
- Now add milk and cardamom powder and let it cook.
- Cook until all the milk gets absorbed.
- Now add sugar and let it cook, cook till it is dissolved completely.
- Keep cooking until the halwa becomes thick in consistency.
- Now garnish with the fried nuts.
Kaddu ka halwa doesn’t take a lot time to cook. It takes only 20 minutes. Thus it is very easy to make. Kaddu ka halwa is one of the delicacies of Pakistani cuisines and is made all over Pakistan. People of Pakistan and that of India also love eating kaddu ka halwa. One thing should be kept in mind while coking kaddu ka halwa is that always cook it in milk and never in water, since water takes away all the taste of pumpkin.
Kaddu ka halwa is light food and can be eaten in breakfast or evening snacks. One can also add khoya in it to make it rich and his can served at parties or festivals.
