Lauki Ka Halwa Recipes

Lauki ka halwa is made from bottle gourd. Bottle gourd is a green vegetable which has many advantages. Bottle gourd is known to aid digestion. It is known to have calming, cooling and diuretic effects on the digestive tract. It also helps in preventing urinary tract infections. It also contains vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin C and minerals, like magnesium, calcium and phosphorous. Bottle gourd has also shown reduction of high blood pressure and helps in keeping the heart healthy. It aids the thirst in diabetic patient. Bottle gourd has a lot of fiber content and helps in combating digestive tract problems like constipation etc. It is also used in Ayurveda for the inflammation of liver. The halwa made out of bottle gourd taste extremely delicious and one of the most served in wedding functions and other parties. It is one of the many delicacies of Pakistan.

Best recipe to prepare Lauki ka halwa is as follow

Ingredients:

  • Long bottle gourd (1) 1-1/2 kg.
  • Small cardamom 8.
  • Khoya 250 gm.
  • Sugar 1 cup.
  • Pistachio 10.
  • Desiccated coconut 1 packet.
  • Sugar 1 tsp.
  • Almonds 10.
  • Oil 2 tbsp.

Method:

  1. Take a bottle gourd, peel it and then grate it in a machine or by using a grater.
  2. Steam it and dry its water.
  3. Take 1 tbsp of sugar and grind it with cardamom.
  4. Take a wok and pour some oil.
  5. Heat the oil and cardamom.
  6. Roast the cardamom a bit.
  7. Then add steamed bottle gourd in it.
  8. Roast the bottle gourd.
  9. Take a pan and pour some water.
  10. Add sugar in this water and cook till syrup is made.
  11. Add roasted bottle gourd in syrup.
  12. Cook it for 5 minutes.
  13. Spread it out on a dish.
  14. Now put khoya, pistachio and almonds on it.

Lauki ka halwa is a very popular dessert especially during winters. Some people also make gajar and lauki halwa together, which not only tastes better but also add to the nutritional value. Lauki ka halwa is not only savory dish of Pakistan but also in India where it is also called as Dhoodli ka halwa (in Marathi). The garnishing of lauki ka halwa can also be done using dry fruits like walnuts, almonds, pistachio, raisins etc with whipped fresh cream and silver paper. Bottle gourds are easily available in Pakistan and the halwa is also very easy to make and doesn’t take that a long time. Though readymade lauki ka halwa is very easily available and accessible all around Pakistan, there are still some people who like to make it at home.
