Pakora Recipes

Pakora is a savory dish of the South Asia. It is called “fritter” in English Language. Pakoras are very popular among all South Asians are often enjoyed when it rains. It is a must-have fried item in Ramadan. These are deep fried and served with different types of sauces. There are a lot of different types of pakoras find out there in the market. These are prepared using different vegetables and spices.

Aloo Pakora Recipe

Aloo pakoras and aloo samosa are very famous among the people of South Asia. These are very easy to make and taste absolutely delicious. The recipe is very simple.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes- large 1-2 (sliced)
  • Gram flour- half cup
  • baking soda- a pinch
  • red chili flakes- 1 tablespoon
  • red chili powder- 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder- half teaspoon
  • salt- to taste
  • Oil- for frying.

Method

  1. Make a batter out of gram flour.
  2. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chili flakes, red chili powder and baking soda.
  3. Add water little by little until a viscous batter is made.
  4. Dip each slice one by one and coat on both the sides.
  5. Deep fry it when the oil is hot.
  6. Fry until it is golden brown.
  7. Serve these pakoras hot with green chutney.

Mix vegetable Pakoras

Out of hundreds of variations of pakoras this one of the most liked pakora recipe. It is extremely tasty and dish of choice when it rains. The recipe is pretty simple and quick.

Ingredients

  • Chopped potato 1
  • Chopped onion 1
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • White pepper powder 1/2 tsp
  • Baking powder 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp
  • Brinjal 1
  • Gram flour 300 gm
  • Chopped green chilies 3-4
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp.

Method

  1. Measure the gram flour and Strain it.
  2. Now add all the chopped vegetables like potatoes, brinjal, onion, garlic paste, green chilies, white pepper, red chili, turmeric, baking powder and salt and make batter for water as required for pakoray.
  3. Heat oil in pan as much that smoke can be seen, fry pakoray and take out in tissue paper so it can absorb all the excess oil.
  4. Then serve these yummy pakoras with chutney.

Palak Pakoras

This variation of pakora is super tasty and super quick. Not to forget also very healthy. Spinach is a very healthy green vegetable with lots of health related advantages. Spinach is a huge source of iron, Vitamin E, fiber and calcium. Adding it to our meal double fold the benefits of spinach.

Ingredients

  • Spinach -7-8 leaves
  • Gram flour- half cup
  • baking soda- a pinch
  • red chili flakes- 1 tablespoon
  • red chili powder- 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder- half teaspoon
  • salt- to taste
  • Oil- for frying.

Method

  1. Wash all the spinach leaves properly and drain them completely.
  2. Do not use it while it’s wet.
  3. Make a batter out of gram flour.
  4. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chili flakes, red chili powder and baking soda.
  5. Add water little by little until a viscous batter is made.
  6. Add each leaf, one by one, and coat it properly on both the sides.
  7. Heat the oil.
  8. Put each slice one by one in the oil and deep fry them until the coating turns golden brown.
  9. Take them out on a paper towel so that excess oil can be absorbed easily.
  10. Serve hot with ketchup or chutney.

Batata Vada

This is a famous Indian recipe for pakoras. These require a bit of preparation beforehand but they taste absolutely divine. It doesn’t involve a lot of ingredients, just the ones that are easily avaible in all the kitchens.

Ingredients

  • Coriander leaves 2 tablespoon
  • Green chilies 4-5
  • Gram flour 1-1/2 cups
  • Potatoes 600 gm
  • Garlic 10-12 cloves
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp
  • Soda bi-carbonate a pinch
  • Red Chili Flakes 1 tea spoon
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ginger 1 inch
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to fry and Ketchup to serve.

Method is also very simple.

  1. Boil the potatoes and peel them.
  2. Mash potatoes when they cool down with help of a potato masher and keep aside.
  3. Take ginger, garlic and green chilies and make a paste out of them.
  4. Make a batter out of gram flour.
  5. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chili flakes, red chili powder and baking soda.
  6. Add water little by little until a viscous batter is made.
  7. In a bowl put the paste of ginger, garlic and green chilies you just prepared.
  8. Add mashed potatoes and turmeric powder and mix well.
  9. Now in this add chopped coriander.
  10. Put salt according to your taste.
  11. Let the mixture cool.
  12. When the mixture cools down shape them into balls.
  13. Dip the potato balls into the gram flour.
  14. Heat oil in a wok pan.
  15. One by one put the balls inside the wok and deep fry in hot oil till golden brown.
  16. Serve hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.

Tips:

  1. Do not start frying until the oil is considerable hot.
  2. Always fry on slow or medium flame so that the ingredients inside are cooked well.
  3. Don’t put all of the pakoras inside together else they will stick to each other.
  4. Frying on high flame may overcook the coating but inside it might be raw.
